REGISTERED NURSE PRACTITIONER
Student Health Services
100% time, 12 month term
Current hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.
Please note: Hours may vary

SALARY:
Range A-126, Steps 1 - 6, $5,850 - $7,466. Initial salary placement, Step 1.

OVERVIEW:
The Registered Nurse Practitioner will provide clinical services to patients under the guidance of clinical protocols developed in conjunction with a supervising physician. Reports to the Director, Student Health Services.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Provide clinical services to patients and coordinate the daily activities of staff
Perform medical and psycho-social assessments, interpret diagnostic data, determine diagnosis and develop treatment plans for acute, episodic illnesses, injuries, etc. in accordance with established, physician-approved standardized procedures and guidelines
Provide instructions to patients, orally and in writing, regarding findings, plan of care, instructions for self-care and follow-up recommendations
Oversee the delivery of clinical services on a day-to-day basis including the scheduling of staff, monitoring of daily events, etc.
Participate in the inventory, ordering, and maintenance of clinic supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals
Assist the Director in researching current health trends and practices as well as developing and maintaining clinical protocols in accordance with current standards of care
Serve as a resource and liaison for the college community on issues of health promotion which may include classroom presentations, resource material development, organizing outreach activities, committee membership and staff/faculty presentations
Gather data on a regular basis to determine campus trends and needs, and to recommend program modifications in response to identified needs
Establish relationships with community health providers for the purpose of serving as referral agencies
Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Director, Student Health Services
Perform related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Current standards of practice, including State and Federal regulations, that apply to the provision of health care such as the Nurse Practice Act, HIPAA and Universal Precautions standards
Communicable disease epidemiology, prevention and control in accordance with recommendations from local and state public health departments, and the Centers for Disease Control
Health issues common to the community college population
Skills and Abilities:
Utilize sound clinical judgment and apply methods appropriate to presenting problems and needs of clients
Ability to provide first aid care and determine appropriate follow-up needs
Demonstrate an understanding of the nursing process
Perform basic laboratory screenings and tests including microscopy, phlebotomy, PPD skin tests, pregnancy tests, urinalysis, etc.
Maintain medical records as per current legal requirements
Apply legal and ethical standards and guidelines to all aspects of practice
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with the campus community, the general community, Student Health Services staff, including physicians, mental health professionals, nurses, etc., in order to provide optimum care for patients
Demonstrate sensitivity and competence addressing multicultural health issues
Develop and present health information material appropriate for the campus community
Prepare and maintain a variety of statistical records and reports
Use common office equipment such as a fax, basic computer skills, photocopying, etc.
Work independently with little direction
Demonstrate strong work ethic
Adapt to changing work demands
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Nursing or related field and a minimum of three years of experience in an acute health care setting or private practice; urgent care experience preferred.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Possession of a valid California Board of Registered Nursing license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in family or adult care.
Possession of a valid California furnishing number issued by the Board of Registered Nursing.
A current Basic Life Support certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
Employment of selected candidate contingent on passing physical examination.
Recommended candidate for this position will be required to obtain fingerprint clearance prior to beginning employment.
