POSITION GOAL
This Job Description for the Staff R.N. in the Operating Room provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in the Staff R.N. position. The Staff R.N. assigned to the Operating Room cares for neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients under going surgical procedures.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITY
E1. Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for assigned patients.
E2. Responsible for meeting the Standards of Practice and managing all assigned personnel, supplies, and equipment.
E3. Participates in activities to plan, measure, assess, and improve the quality of patient care.
E4. Circulates or scrubs for a variety of surgical specialty cases.
E5. Responsible for surgical suite preparation for a variety of surgical cases.
E6. Assumes the responsibility of charging the department, as needed.
INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS
Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and other clinical disciplines in making decisions regarding each patient’s nursing care needs. Works with professional and non-professional employees of the hospital, and with physicians, patients, and their families.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Experience:
1 . Two years scrubbing and/or circulating in an hospital O.R. setting required
Education:
1. B.S. Nursing preferred.
2. Educational requirements appropriate for meeting population-specific needs of patients assigned to the Operating Room.
Special Qualifications
1. Current Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners
2. Current CPR certification
