POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) functions in the role of expert clinician, educator, consultant, administrator and researcher. In collaboration with the medical and nursing staffs, the CNS monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care, staff satisfaction, patient satisfaction and patient outcomes. Incorporated within each of these role functions, the CNS is a role model, patient advocate, change agent, leader and cost effective practitioner.
Essential Accountabilities
Clinical Activities

• Functions as a clinical practitioner for a specialty service providing and modeling expert clinical nursing practice

• Performs daily rounds on patients within her assigned area of responsibility in order to assist & provide direction to nursing staff with clinical decision making & priority setting
• Monitors patient's clinical progress ensuring appropriate level of care, ongoing psychosocial & emotional support, patient education and appropriate discharge planning in collaboration with patient/family, medical & nursing staff and other healthcare disciplines
• Provides approved clinical services including mediastinal tube, epicardial pacer wire, and epidural catheter removal, etc, as required, in area of specialization
