Position Summary: Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) are clinical experts in the diagnosis and treatment of illness, and the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions. The CNS is an expert in executing delegated medical regimens associated with diagnosis and treatment of disease for a specialty population. The CNS possess advanced knowledge of the science of nursing with a specialty focus and apply that knowledge to nursing assessments, diagnosis, and interventions, and the design of innovations. They function independently to provide theory and evidence-based care to patients/clients in their attainment of health goals. Clinical Nurse Specialists work with other nurses to advance their nursing practices and improve outcomes, and provide clinical expertise to effect system-wide changes to improve programs of care. Performs other duties as assigned.
II. Essential Functions:
* Demonstrates committed advanced application of nursing knowledge, theory skills, critical thinking and analysis
* Evaluates effectiveness of clinical practice and care delivery through measurable methods.
* Performs clinical interventions necessary for achieving quality patient outcomes
* Uses the quality process to improve clinical outcomes
* Perform rounds on select complex population of patients by diagnosis, procedure, and/or clinical marker
* Provides qualitative assessment that enhances the interpretation of quantitative data and directs changes in care processes
* Provides regular or episodic care and directed to populations of
patients in which there are recurrent problems or themes, poor
outcomes, or recidivism and then collaborates with other members of the
health care team to develop and implement standards of care, critical
pathways, clinical procedures, or quality or performance improvement
plans.
* Primary coordinator to champion practice of dependable implementation of a best practice guidelines
* Promotes documentation practices to capture quality of care provided.
* Prescribes per standard and best practice guidelines in collaboration with physicians when applicable.
* Participates in the Quality Improvement process by providing concurrent quality review of nursing care.
* Identifies quality concerns and participates in the utilization and
development of clinical pathways, standards, guidelines, policies and
procedures to promote quality of patient care.
* Facilitates referrals to services for ongoing care
* Serve as a liaison to staff, administration, physicians, and other health care professionals
* Compares outcomes, refines critical pathways, algorithms, or
guidelines, improve clinical management and further promote consistent
adherence.
* Provide internal/external consultation services from an advanced
nursing perspective related to area of clinical expertise and
certification
* Contributes at the system level for education plans at the advanced knowledge expert area.
* Contribute to financial integrity and planning of cost effective measures to address care processes, products, and practices
* Leads clinical nursing research
* Presents research findings in professional forums to advance and promote nursing practice
* Utilizes current research to promote continuous quality improvement in nursing practice
* Investigates care processes to influence patient outcomes using evidence based and best practice guidelines
* Influences and collaborates in standardizing patient education for various populations
* Attends educational offerings to promote professional practice
* Promotes and influences quality patient outcomes through
collaboration between all health care team members and utilizing
clinical practice, advanced practice, and nurse executive councils in
the collaborative governance model.
* Serves as a role model for individuals or groups by providing
perspective in problem solving, decision-making, and planning
activities to achieve patient outcomes within the specialty population.
* Provides continuing education for professional nursing development
* Promotes community awareness campaigns to improve health
* Participates in INTEGRIS sponsored community service activities
III. Accountability:
Reports to the Vice President of Patient Care Services or assigned Director.
IV. Qualifications:
* Master's Degree in Nursing as Clinical Nurse Specialist required.
* Current licensure in the state of Oklahoma as a Registered nurse and
as an Advanced Practice Nurse (or in process of applying for) required.
* Three (3) years related clinical experience required. Prefer two (2) additional years of experience in a specialty setting.

safety precautions. Exposed to constant interruptions, noise,
disagreeable odors, and assorted chemicals. May float to other units.
May be required to be on call status.
